Welcome to Escape Manila Travel Blog!

Escape Manila is a Philippine travel blog that features travel guides, travel tips, and sample budget and travel itineraries. The blog was initially created to document Glen’s adventures and misadventures on the road. Today, it has become a source of travel information to help fellow travelers in planning their itinerary and future trips.

How it all started

In 2009, I was planning to go on a backpacking trip to Southeast Asia. To be honest, I was still not familiar with the word “backpacking”. All I wanted that time was to travel across Southeast Asia. That’s it.

I was still a virgin that time when it comes to traveling but I was determined to explore places I’ve never been to. I traveled solo and it gave me so many lessons in life. That trip was definitely one for the books.

The blog

When I had my first solo trip, I was already blogging but with a different niche. After my trip, I realized that it would be nice to document my travel so I can read it when I grow old. I was too lazy then so it did not materialize. I also accepted a new work abroad so I had to set aside the plan of creating a new blog.

Then, in 2011, I traveled again. This time, in the Philippines. I packed my back and decided to go backpacking up north. I wasn’t that much prepared but I felt like I needed it.

After that trip, I finally bought a new domain, so, Escape Manila was born.

Why Escape Manila?

I was living in Manila when I purchased the domain. I thought it would be nice to have a domain name where many people can relate. After all, who doesn’t want to escape the busy and chaotic life in Manila? We all deserve a vacation. We all deserve a break. We all deserve an escape, a quick escape to refresh our minds and souls, right?

So, who is Glen?

I am a graduate of Social Science from a reputable university in Davao City, Philippines. My background is in Human Resources so my previous jobs were all HR-related. In 2011, I quit my job as a Group HR Manager in a US contracting company and decided to work as a freelancer so I can work and travel at the same time.

I was happy doing freelance jobs in the past 7 years but just recently, I decided to become a full-time travel blogger. At least for now, while I am about to go on a long backpacking journey. šŸ™‚
