Travelers from Mindanao and Palawan can now fly to Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines – East ASEAN Growth Areas (BIMP-EAGA) countries without paying a travel tax. This was announced by PTV News after Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, by the authority of the President, signed Memorandum Circular No. 23, Renewing the travel tax exemption policy to travelers departing from all international airports and seaports in Mindanao and Palawan to any destination in the BIMP-EAGA region.
This means, if you fly from Davao International Airport to Kuala Lumpur, you will no longer have to pay the Php1,620 travel tax at least for the next five years!
So, if you are planning to go to any other country, consider flying from Davao to Kuala Lumpur and take your next flight from there instead of Manila. It might save you some money! 🙂
